Mathematical Applications in Drug Discovery and Development

Biomedical research is becoming an information science. Now, biomedical research including drug discovery and development can’t be done without data mining including text mining. Recent new technology such as imaging and NGS requires skills to develop a new method in data analysis and it is not enough to just bring in some of approaches from published papers. Under this environment, pharmaceutical companies have been seeking scientists with different skills that could not be filled easily by current data analysts. A potential scientist filling the gap probably needs strong mathematical background and deep understanding of data analysis. In this presentation, some of the mathematical applications at multiple stages of drug discovery and development will be introduced and discussed.
